SWOT Analysis & Goals

I. Technology SWOT Analysis

Strengths
I am very confident now with my new technology-enriched programs developed through this course. I feel that I have a positive take on technology advances, and I feel that I have grown from simple technology tasks such as using digital media, pda and smartphone technologies, Microsoft office programs, etc. I now feel just as satisfied in my accomplishments with more advanced technologies such as audacity programs, podcasts, movie making, blogging, and webpage creations.

Weaknesses
My weakness in this course is my hard-headed refusal to sit through every last tutorial. I do the same thing when I get a new appliance with a users manual. I insist on trying to figure out how to use each feature with the equipment or technology. If I read a lot of directions, I don't feel that I will remember or retain the information as well as if I reach the conclusion myself.

Looking at my NETS-T self-assessment, I may have weaknesses in the following areas:
  • promoting student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
  • providing students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.
  • addressing the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.
  • develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools.
  • participating in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.
  • evaluating and reflecting on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.

Opportunities
I think that I have plenty of opportunities to advance in different technologies. As a students, I still see my graduate program in my future to offer more developments of my tools. As a teacher, I see many opportunities to finally apply these new tools and resources in a fun, creative, and educational manner. I hope to continue to develop in my career with these technology advances.

Threats
I do feel threatened by the thought of keeping up with technology. There are always new ways to do things that would usually be done on paper, and I love that. Although it is nerve-wrenching to attempt to keep up with it all, it is also so exciting. I also feel threatened by the changes in technology that threatens our privacy. As I want to grow and learn more, and as I want there to be more that we can be able to do at the touch of a button, it is also scary how much a crude person can do with the touch of a button. These hackers and thiefs frighten me.

II. Goal

Goal #1: addressing the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.

Goal #2: develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools.
